If, like most people, you have questions – we have answers! Here are some of the most frequently asked questions regarding the HCG diet:

What is HCG?

HCG is Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, a hormone naturally produced in the placenta during pregnancy. This particular hormone controls most metabolic function throughout the entire pregnancy. While it mirrors the actual hormone found in a woman’s body, any HCG used for medical purposes has been created in a laboratory.

So, do I just jump in?

No. Prior to beginning the HCG diet program we will perform a general health assessment, collect your health history, and make sure you are a prime candidate. The HCG diet can feel fairly intense and lead to dramatic weight loss. We want to make sure that you are ready physically and emotionally to take this path.

How will I know what to do?

The program will be explained to you in detail and everything you are expected to do – from injections to specific caloric intake – will be covered. Most people have never given themselves an injection and are naturally a little nervous about the process. We work with you until you feel comfortable.

How much can I lose?

Most of our patients tell us that they are losing an average of 1 to 2 pounds per day, however, your results may be different. One major survey shows that 50% of HCG dieters lost 1 pound per day.

Why am I restricted to so few calories on this diet?

Granted, 500 calories per day sounds a lot like starvation. However, many of our patients report simply not being hungry while receiving HCG injections. HCG encourages your hypothalamus to cause stored fat to be used as energy. Because this fat is continually fueling your body and burning large quantities of calories in the process, you will likely see rapid weight loss.

Is it safe to lose weight this quickly?

Studies have shown that the weight lost through the HCG program comes from adipose fat, rather than lean muscle. Adipose fat is that unhealthy stuff that leads to so many negative health issues. It appears as though valuable vitamins and minerals are not stripped in the weight loss process, making it a win/win situation.

What about safety?

We have found that side effects are rare and when they do occur, are generally quite minor. As with each of our weight loss programs, contact us immediately if you begin to experience side effects of any kind.

I know someone who lost weight on the HCG diet,
only to gain it back again. Will that happen to me?

The answer to this question totally depends upon you. If you use the time you are taking HCG to modify your cooking and eating behavior, you are likely to be successful in learning to keep the weight off. Think of it as a kick-start for weight loss.
